Wednesday is the day of the week I often have the most energy and momentum, but also feel the weight of the work ahead. Through this mid-week reflection e-mail message, my hope is to connect with people who are immersed in their week with a brief message - 3 paragraphs - and a suggestion for practice. At the heart of my ministries is a Unitarian Universalist faith, and so, I imagine that these weekly messages may appeal to those who are Unitarian Universalist or considering joining a UU community.
Immersed(im·merse | \ i-ˈmərs) Plunged into all that surrounds us, covers us, forms a thin felt border around us, let us know where our boundaries meet the edges of things and other beings-- The state of being sunken into what holds us, engrossed and steady buoyant and mutable. We can change how we inhabit our life as the world around us teaches us what it is like to submerge into something broader, deeper than where any of us imagined we left off. I am not fully sure what kind of "edges" will emerge in this new pattern of engaging and writing. I'd like to say I am confident that one unified voice (ta-da!) will come forth every Wednesday without trepidation or clumsiness or discrepancy! But what's probably more reasonable is to promise is that I will stay true. I will be honest. I will be loving. I'll make mistakes and try to make up for them. I'll definitely be changed by writing to you. Will you consider following along with me in a mid-week reflection? Please consider subscribing to this weekly inbox message. I'd like to get to know you as you get to know me, so please feel free to comment on the entries posted here on my blog. Suggestion for Practice How do you know when "it's Wednesday" or whatever day is the middle of your own week? What does it sound or feel like to be submerged? Notice the way something familiar plunges past the surface of water - a child's bath toy that doesn't quiet float, a plate dropped into a sink for scrubbing, your own hand in a stream. |
